Description
Henri Matisse (1869-1954) after - Arabesque. Lithograph (reduction) on untrimmed wove paper, 65 x 48 cm. Berggruen edition, printed by Mourlot. Condition A, perfect state of preservation. This work is an elegant reworking of the famous 1924 lithograph, published here by the prestigious Berggruen Gallery. In it, Matisse explores the fluidity of line through a female figure whose curves intertwine with ornamental motifs, creating a visual harmony where subject and setting merge. The term "arabesque" here defines not only the motif, but also the sinuous, rhythmic movement of the line, characteristic of the artist's quest for simplification and balance. The vellum paper support with its untrimmed edges gives this edition the quality of a luxury print, in keeping with the tradition of fine art printmaking. It captures the essence of Matisse's period in Nice, combining sensuality with decorative rigour.
