Description
Roger Bezombes (1913-1994) - Arphila. Original lithograph in colours on wove paper, 71 x 51 cm. Artist's proof (EA) signed in pencil by the artist lower right and bearing the handwritten dedication: "pour Jacques Hugon cordial souvenir". Condition A, perfect state of preservation. This work was produced for the international philatelic exhibition "Arphila", for which Bezombes unfurled his baroque and abundant universe. It reveals his predilection for accumulating symbols, stamps and heraldic motifs, all treated with brilliant chromatic exuberance. True to his style as a "painter of life", here Bezombes transforms an official commission into a rhythmic, almost kaleidoscopic composition, in which the black line structures flat areas of vivid colour. The dedication to Jacques Hugon, a close collaborator in the lithographic publishing world, reinforces the historical interest of this artist's proof. It is representative of French graphic art in the 1970s, combining modernity and decorative tradition.
