Description
Jean Bazaine (1904-2001) - Abstract composition III. Original lithograph in colours on wove paper, 65 x 49 cm. Condition A, perfect state of conservation. This work is emblematic of lyrical abstraction, of which Bazaine was one of the most ardent defenders within the Nouvelle École de Paris. Far from a rigid geometric abstraction, this composition emphasises organic movement and the vibration of light through an interweaving of fluid shapes and muted colours. Here Bazaine sought to convey the elemental rhythms of nature - water, sky or earth - without ever falling into figuration. The lithographic technique preserves the transparency of the coloured layers, creating a spatial depth that is characteristic of his work on space and continuity. The balanced format underlines the power of a gesture that is both free and controlled, making this piece a major testimony to the artist's post-war spiritual and formal quest. Ecole de Paris.
