Description
André Minaux (1923-1986) - Mural Poetry, 1972. Original lithograph in colours on wove paper, 76 x 53 cm. Signed in pencil by the artist lower right and numbered 10/100 lower left. Condition A, perfect state of conservation. This work illustrates Minaux's masterful transition to a purified aesthetic, in which the strength of the black line structures compositions of great serenity. Through this theme, the artist explores the relationship between the figure and the flat space, using flat tones of muted colour and an economy of means that give the image a timeless, monumental dimension. The title suggests a desire to transform the paper medium into an inhabited surface, an intimate fresco where poetry is born of the simplicity of form. The limited edition of 100 copies in this large format highlights the exceptional quality of the printing, revealing the texture and depth of the inks characteristic of his work from the 1970s. This work is emblematic of the revival of figurative art, combining architectural rigour with poetic sensitivity. This original lithograph was used again the same year to create the poster for the first Festival of Mural Poetry in Brest, Brittany. Catalogue reference: S. 272
