Description
Henri Deschamps (1898-1990) - The Sunflowers, 1980. Original lithograph in colours on Arches wove paper, 53 x 36 cm. Artist's proof (EA) signed and dated in pencil by the artist lower right. Condition A, perfect state of preservation. This work bears witness to the unique talent of Deschamps, the famous master lithographer from the Mourlot studio who worked closely with Picasso and Braque, as well as being a talented painter. In this springtime composition, he appropriated the classic theme of sunflowers with a sensitivity all his own, favouring soft light and balanced construction. The choice of Arches vellum paper and the EA label underline the care taken with this personal print, in which the superimposition of inks reveals great technical mastery and a remarkable depth of colour. The date 1980 corresponds to a period when the artist, drawing on his experience with the greatest masters, expressed a serene and luminous vision of nature. A delicate piece that combines the excellence of the craftsmanship of the Mourlot printing works with the poetry of an artist who has unjustly remained in the shadow of the geniuses he served.
