Description
Yves Brayer (1907-1990) - Saint-Tropez by night, 1971. Original lithograph in colours on wove paper, 37 x 43.5 cm. Signed in pencil by the artist lower right. Condition A- margins faded. This work captures the vibrant, nocturnal atmosphere of the famous Mediterranean port, a favourite subject for Brayer, who was one of the most faithful painters of the landscapes of Provence. In 1971, at the peak of his art, he used the lithographic technique to translate the reflections of light on the water and the characteristic silhouette of the bell tower of Saint-Tropez against a deep night sky. His style, marked by lively figuration and a mastery of chromatic contrasts, managed to capture the warmth and effervescence of the town while maintaining a certain architectural rigour. The palette of dense blues, enhanced by the yellow and orange flashes of urban lighting, testifies to his sensitivity to the light of the South, even at dusk. This signed print is emblematic of his work from the 1970s, offering a poetic yet structured vision of a legendary location on the Côte d'Azur.
