Description
Félix Labisse (1905-1982) - Hélène. Original lithograph in colours on Japon nacré paper, 75 x 53.5 cm. Signed in pencil by the artist. Condition A, perfect state of conservation. This work is an exceptional example of Labisse's work, a master of "blue" surrealism and dreamlike metamorphoses. The subject of Hélène, a mythological figure of absolute beauty, is treated here with the linear precision and erotic coolness characteristic of his style. The choice of pearlescent Japon paper, a precious medium with iridescent reflections and a silky texture, transcends the composition by bringing an almost mystical depth and luminosity to the flat areas of colour. Here, the artist unfolds her world of structured fantasies, in which the female body becomes an architecture of desire in the midst of a timeless space. The large format emphasises the monumentality of the figure and the finesse of the gradations, particularly enhanced by the luxury of the support. Printed on Japon nacré, which is usually reserved for first or prestige copies, this lithograph is a rare collector's item, combining the technical virtuosity of fine art printing with Labisse's singular, theatrical aesthetic.
