Description
Jean Dubuffet (1901-1985) - Device on the ground, 1958. Original lithograph in black on wove paper, 65.5 x 50 cm. Artist's proof (EA) signed, titled, dated and justified in pencil by the artist. Condition A, perfect state of preservation. This masterly work belongs to the monumental Phénomènes series, a cycle of lithographic research in which Dubuffet explored the textures of the world and "celebrations of the ground". In "Dispositif au sol", the artist moves away from all figuration to concentrate on the raw aspect of the material, creating a topography of stains, sedimentations and imprints that evoke a terrestrial or mineral surface. This quest for formlessness, the cornerstone of his Art Brut philosophy, seeks to reveal the beauty of the humblest elements and the infinite richness of natural textures. The status of Épreuve d'Artiste from 1958 gives this piece remarkable historical value and rarity, marking the beginning of his most radical experiments with the lithographic medium. The handwritten signature and date authenticate this fascinating immersion in Dubuffe's microcosm, making this plate an essential document of his post-war artistic adventure.
