Description
Yves de Saint-Front (1928-2017) - "Mataiea". Original lithograph in colours on wove paper, 63 x 90 cm. Signed in pencil by the artist lower right. Condition A, perfect state of conservation. Mataiea is the smallest commune in Tahiti and an island in French Polynesia. The son of the famous marine painter Marin-Marie, Yves de Saint-Front is renowned for his highly sensitive work, in which landscapes and maritime scenes are treated with an economy of line verging on lyrical abstraction. This large-format work demonstrates his mastery of emptiness and his ability to suggest the atmosphere of the Normandy and Brittany coasts through flat, sober colours and extremely pure lines. His style, imbued with serenity and a certain melancholy, seeks to capture the essence of light and movement rather than the literal description of the subject. The imposing size of the work accentuates the spatial depth and contemplative force of its composition, making this lithograph a remarkable example of his graphic elegance. The absence of a title leaves the viewer completely free to interpret this uncluttered vision of nature, characteristic of Saint-Front's artistic maturity.
