Description
Henry d'Anty (1910-1998) - Don Quixote. Original lithograph in colours on wove paper, 105 x 60 cm. Artist's proof (EA) signed in pencil by the artist lower right and enriched with a handwritten dedication. Condition A, perfect state of conservation. This monumental work illustrates d'Anty's flamboyant expressionist style, characterised by a generous use of material and intense colours, particularly his signature deep reds and ochres. In this interpretation of the famous knight with the sad face, the artist favours an imposing verticality that underlines the lanky silhouette and tragic aspect of Cervantes' character. The line is vigorous, almost sculptural, giving the scene a remarkable dramatic force. The status of Artist's Proof, combined with a personal dedication, makes this a unique and intimate piece, testifying to the artist's links with his entourage and collectors. The exceptional format of over a metre in height reinforces the visual impact of this composition, making this lithograph a major work in d'Anty's body of work dedicated to legendary figures. It is a rare collector's item in terms of its size and individual character.
