Description
Marcel Charles L. SALINAS (1913-2010) - The Canal Saint-Martin. Original lithograph in colours on wove paper, 54 x 75 cm. Proof justified HC (Hors Commerce), signed in pencil by the artist lower right and enriched with a handwritten dedication. Condition A, perfect state of preservation. This work is a masterly illustration of the Salinas style, in which the rigour of the construction is combined with a softness of colour typical of his Parisian views. The artist, famous for his mastery of light and his prestigious collaborations with Picasso on the "Portraits Imaginaires" series, has created a calm, structured vision of the famous canal. The composition plays on the reflections of the water and the alignment of the façades, using subtle tones that capture the melancholy and poetic atmosphere of the capital's working-class districts. Its Hors Commerce status, combined with the dedication, underlines the rare and personal nature of this print, which was probably given by the artist to a close friend or colleague. It is a collector's item that combines the precision of the architectural line with an atmospheric sensitivity typical of the École de Paris, of which Salinas was one of the most refined exponents.
