Description
Mikhail Larionov (1881-1964) - Poster for the exhibition at the Musée d'Albi. Offset lithograph on wove paper, 72.5 x 55 cm. Early proof or offprint of the poster for the 1973 retrospective exhibition. Condition A, perfect state of conservation. This work is a major historical testimony to the posthumous recognition of Mikhail Larionov, pioneer of the Russian avant-garde and founder of Rayonism. Through this 1973 exhibition, the Musée d'Albi paid tribute to the inventiveness of an artist who was able to break the codes of figuration to explore the trajectories of light and energy. This print, produced on high-quality vellum paper, magnifies the artist's distinctive chromatic palette and graphic strength, where forms intertwine in a resolutely modern dynamic. The generous 72.5 cm format underlines the monumentality of Larionov's compositions, while retaining the finesse of detail and vibrancy of tone that characterise his plastic research. Although initially conceived to accompany the museum event, this plate has now established itself as a collector's item in its own right, illustrating Larionov's crucial role in the genesis of European abstraction. It is a work that combines the documentary scope of a historical retrospective with the visual power of a master of the École de Paris, offering a privileged incursion into the world of one of the great colour theorists of the twentieth century.
