Description
Robert Savary (1920-2000) - Venice. Original lithograph on wove paper, 54x 76 cm . Signed in pencil by the artist, enriched with a handwritten dedication and marked EA (Épreuve d'Artiste). Condition A- , trace of an old frame. This work is a luminous celebration of the City of the Doges, a favourite subject for this Grand Prix de Rome painter who always sought to capture the vibration of air and water. In this view of Venice, Savary deploys his characteristic style, in which the rigour of the composition fades behind an effusion of light and colour. The artist uses the lithographic technique to superimpose cheerful tones and transparencies that masterfully evoke the changing reflections of the lagoon and the patina of historic facades. His brushstrokes, both free and structured, manage to capture the unique atmosphere of the city without lapsing into facile picturesqueness, favouring a pure, dynamic visual sensation. The large format makes it possible to appreciate the depth of field and the energy of the brushstroke, demonstrating that Savary belongs to that line of French painters who, following in the footsteps of Marquet and Dufy, reinvented the Mediterranean landscape. The mention "EA" and the autograph dedication underline the personal and rare nature of this print, which was often given as a gift to close friends or colleagues. It is a radiant collector's item, seductive in its freshness, chromatic mastery and ability to convey an immediate solar emotion. The artist's hand signature confirms the authenticity of this plate, which remains a vibrant tribute to the eternal beauty of Venice.
