Description
Arnaud D'HAUTERIVES (1933-2018) - Boats in port. Original lithograph in colours on wove paper, 76 x 56 cm.Condition A, perfect state of conservation. This work is a masterly demonstration of the talent of Arnaud d'Hauterives, a major institutional figure in French art, First Grand Prix de Rome in 1957 and Official Painter of the Navy since 1981. A former Permanent Secretary of the Académie des Beaux-Arts, he treats the maritime theme here with the structural rigour that characterises his style, where the verticality of the masts meets the serenity of the water. His mastery of light, learnt during his stay at the Villa Medici, transforms this harbour view into a composition of poetic realism, favouring atmosphere and silence over simple documentary precision. The imposing 76 cm format allows for a nuanced palette of muted tones and vibrant reflections, testifying to a lithographic technique of great finesse. This collector's item perfectly illustrates the synthesis between academic heritage and contemporary sensibility, making d'Hauterives one of the greatest ambassadors of twentieth-century French marine and landscape art.
