Description
Marcel MOULY (1918-2008) - The Berbers (circa 1996). Original lithograph in colours on wove paper, 62 x 59 cm. Signed in pencil by the artist lower right and annotated EA (Épreuve d'Artiste) lower left. Condition A, perfect state of preservation. This work is a vibrant testimony to the style of Marcel Mouly, one of the last great heirs of Cubism and the chromatic synthesis of the École de Paris. In this composition, painted around 1996, the artist transcribes his memories of his travels with a lyrical geometry in which the silhouettes of Berbers are integrated into a play of structured planes. Her palette, dominated by stark contrasts and intense light, evokes the warmth and depth of North African landscapes. The almost square format of 62 x 59 cm accentuates the strength of the layout, characteristic of his work on the balance of shapes and colours. As an artist's proof, this plate has a special character, bearing witness to a meticulous print run under the artist's direct control. This lithograph perfectly embodies the fusion between the rigour of post-Cubist construction and the poetic freedom for which Mouly is internationally renowned.
