Gunther Kieser's poster for Musica Folklorica Argentina - Misa Criolla is a real treasure! Created in 1967, this promotional poster for an Argentinian folk music concert in Frankfurt is a perfect example of 1960s graphic art. The poster features a colourful and vibrant design, with motifs inspired by Argentine folk music. Günther Kieser (born 24 March 1930 in Kronberg im Taunus, Germany - died 22 March 2023 in Offenbach am Main) was a German graphic artist, poster designer and sculptor. He is particularly famous for his jazz and rock concert posters from the 1960s-1970s, created for events featuring artists such as Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie, Oscar Peterson, John Coltrane and Jimi Hendrix. Kieser began his career around 1949 as a freelance graphic designer after studying at the Werkkunstschule in Offenbach. For a long time he worked for the concert agency Lippmann + Rau, producing posters emblematic of the jazz and rock era. His posters often combine strong graphic elements, sometimes inspired by collages and bold shapes that marked the musical visuals of the 1960s/70s. Some of his posters are now on display in international museums and collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Kieser also taught visual design as a professor at the Bergische Universität in Wuppertal (1981-1992) and has been a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI) since 1964, which underlines his recognition in the field of international graphic design. His work has been exhibited solo in venues such as Lincoln Center in New York, Mexico City, China and various European museums. In summary, Günther Kieser was an influential German poster artist, known for his powerful graphic works linked to music, particularly jazz and rock from the 1960s-1970s. He also designed posters for Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis.
