Description
Dan Reisinger (1934-2019) - The 10th Maccabiah, Israel Sports Games 1977. Printed by Japhet Press, Israel. 114x76cm. Original lithographed poster. Not canvas-backed. Condition A+, perfect state of conservation. 34 different countries took part in these games in Ramat in 1977. The Maccabiah Games is an international multi-sports competition held every four years in Israel, sometimes referred to as the "Jewish Olympics". This poster was part of a coherent visual programme that Reisinger developed for the games over several editions, covering the 9ᵉ to 15ᵉ Maccabiah Games. He designed the graphic symbolism, logo and posters for these events for over two decades, so much so that he was recognised by international sporting bodies for his visual contribution to these Games. On the poster for the 10ᵉ Maccabiah (1977), you typically find: dynamic geometric shapes evoking sporting energy; expressive use of bright colours and modern typography; visual integration of the symbol of the Games (often including the Star of David and elements of movement).Reisinger was born in Kanjiža, Serbia, into a line of painters and decorators working in Austria-Hungary and the Balkans. During the Holocaust, most of his family, including his father, lost their lives. From 1954, he was artistic director of books and other army publications. There he took a course in stamp design from Abram Games , who became his mentor and friend. He subsequently travelled, studied and worked in Europe: from 1957 in Brussels, then in London where, from 1964 to 1966, he studied scenography and three-dimensional design at the Central School of Art and Design, created posters for the British Royal Mail and worked for other clients, as well as making regular visits to Israel. In 1966 he returned permanently to Israel and opened a studio in Tel Aviv and later in Giv'atayim, where his work has been exhibited in numerous international group and solo exhibitions. A wide range of posters and various graphic works on social, political and cultural subjects, such as calendars, packaging and over 150 logos. Exhibitions: Budapest Museum of Applied Arts, 2005. 2005 Cvijeta Zuzoric Pavilion, Belgrade. 2006 Ion Mincu, Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning, University of Bucharest. Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), Beijing, 2007. 2008 Taipei Fine Arts Museum (TFAM), Taiwan ("The Art of Design", formerly entitled "Ways").
