Description
Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) - Arles, Musée Réattu, Picasso 30.XII.70, Dessins inédits - Imprimerie Mourlot, 1971. Colour lithograph, 66 x 50 cm. Condition A, perfect state of conservation. Not canvas-backed. This exhibition poster celebrates the presentation of the extraordinary donation of 57 drawings made by Picasso to the city of Arles in 1971, reinforcing his close ties with the bullfighting town. The visual reproduces one of the drawings from the series executed on 30 December 1970, a period during which the master, then aged 89, showed prodigious creative vitality and freedom of line. The print produced by the Mourlot studios reproduces with exemplary precision the vigour of the brushstrokes and the depth of the blacks characteristic of the Spanish genius' graphic work. A major historical piece, it marks the artist's tribute to the Musée Réattu, making this print an indispensable testimony to the special relationship between Picasso and Provence.
