Romain de Tirtoff dit Erté (1892-1990) - Rizzoli Gallery, 1978, approx. 96.5 × 63.8 cm. Original poster printed in zincography. Not canvas-backed. Condition A+, perfect state of conservation. Original lithographed poster created in 1978 to promote a major exhibition of the artist's work at the Rizzoli Gallery in New York (712 Fifth Avenue), which featured a selection of his iconic Art Deco creations. Born Romain de Tirtoff in St Petersburg and later settled in Paris, Erté is a major figure of the Art Deco movement in the XXᵉ century, known for his refined fashion designs, costumes, sets and illustrations. His work explores elegance, theatre, fashion and glamour with a unique graphic sensibility that has profoundly influenced international aesthetics since the 1910s. The 1978 poster features a stylised female figure in a composition of great elegance, typical of Erté's work, where the silhouette, fluid lines and ornamentation evoke the grace, sophistication and festive spirit of the visual arts between the wars. The image captures the essence of Erté's world and visually conveys the atmosphere of the exhibition, which celebrates his legacy as an Art Deco artist.
