Description
JANSENISM] – [FOUILLOU, Jacques] – A Brief History of Jansenism and Remarks on the Ordinance of the Archbishop of Paris. Cologne, Jean Druckerus, 1698. In-12, (32) ff., 176 pp., ivory vellum with flaps.
SAUVY (Confiscated Books) no. 694. Mademoiselle de Joncoux did indeed compose the ‘Letter from M***’, modelled on Duguet’s letter to Boileau, dated 11 March 1697; it appears in this volume immediately following Duguet’s letter. Mr Haureau, in his *Histoire littéraire du Maine* (IV, 268), observes that all contemporary accounts agree in refuting the attribution to Abbé Fouillou, and he believes it to be the collective work of Louail, Fouillou, Mlle de Joncoux, and others. Against the decree of the Archbishop of Paris, Louis-Antoine de Noailles, condemning Martin de Barcos’s *Exposition of the Catholic Faith*.
