ELISABETH-CHARLOTTE, of Orléans – Excerpts from original letters by Madame Charlotte-Elisabeth of Bavaria, widow of Monsieur, the only brother of Louis XIV, written to His Serene Highness the Duke Antoine-Ulric de B** W****, and to Her Serene Highness the Princess of Wales, Caroline, née Princess of Anspach. From 1715 to 1720. Hamburg, and now in Paris, published by Maradan, 1788. 2 volumes in one in-12 volume, XVI, 262 pp.; (2) ff., 299 pp., paper occasionally slightly yellowed, fawn calfskin as per the title page, triple gilt thread on the covers, plain decorated spine, cap ends restored. GAY II, 349. First edition of the letters of Louis XIV’s sister-in-law, the Regent’s mother, known as the Princess Palatine, renowned for their frank tone. These letters, addressed to Duke Antoine-Ulric of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, were translated from the German by Joseph de Maimieux.
