THE DELIGHTS OF COURTLY POETRY – The Delights of Courtly Poetry, by the Most Famous Authors of the Present Age . Paris, Jean Ribou, 1666–1667. 3 parts in one volume, 12mo, (10) folios including the frontispiece, 254 pp.; (4) folios including the frontispiece, 136 pp.; (4) leaves, 88 pp., paper slightly yellowed, a few foxing spots, ivory half-vein binding, plain spine decorated and hand-titled. GAY I, 842. LACHÈVRE III, 57, 58 and 59. First edition of the third part. ‘This collection, which was indeed rather well put together, was intended above all for the true “Prétieuses”, that is to say, the women of wit of the time. (...) It contains pieces that smack somewhat of the licence of the ‘Satyric Parnassus’, along with allusions to the misadventures of a Marquis de Langey...” (Gay). It includes, in particular, the following pieces: Volume I: a piece by Boileau: stanzas on *L’École des Femmes* (pp. 95–96), of which a stanza deemed too frivolous was removed from his collected works – a piece by Corneille: ‘Remerciment au roy’ (pp. 36–39) – a piece by Molière: ‘Stances galantes’ (p. 201) – a piece by La Fontaine – Volume II: a piece by Ch.
