JANIN, Jules – *La Religieuse de Toulouse*. Paris: Michel Lévy Frères, 1850. 2 vols., in-8, 452 and 484 pp., in the publisher’s violet half-calf, with a decorated ribbed spine. First edition. A novel whose heroine is Madame de Mondeville, Mother Superior and founder of the Congregation of the Daughters of Childhood in Toulouse, chronicling her relationship with her coadjutor, the Abbé de Ciron, and her work until the dissolution of the congregation in 1686, the congregation having been suspected of Jansenism.
