Description
CHORIER, Nicolas – *Les Sentiments de l’honnête Homme*. Paris: Antoine de Sommaville, 1642. In-4, (4) folios, 107 (1) pages, yellowed paper, a few faint watermarks, foxing, one corner missing without loss of text, ivory vellum with flaps. First edition unknown to Rochas and Arbour. A second version appeared in Paris in 1648 under the title: *La Philosophie de l’honneste homme pour la conduite de ses sentiments et de ses actions*. This was the second work by Chorier, author of a monumental *Histoire du Dauphiné* (1661–1672). A barrister at the Vienne Bar, he was commissioned by Pierre de Boissat to carry out various missions in Paris in 1640, 1641 and 1647. On these occasions, he became acquainted with the capital’s leading intellectuals and frequented the libraries.
