DU VAIR, Guillaume] – *De L’Eloquence françoise*. By G. D. V. Rouen, Claude Le Villain, 1606. Small 12mo, 287 folios, vellum with flaps of the same material, cord binding. First published in 1594, this treatise is a manifesto in favour of simple, direct eloquence, free from the bombastic digressions drawn from antiquity that often cluttered the speeches of his contemporaries. It includes, following the main text, his translations of two orations by Aeschines and Demosthenes, as well as by Appius Claudius and Cicero.
