Description
BOISROBERT, François Le Metel de – *Les deux Alcandres*. A tragicomedy by M. de Bois-Robert. Dedicated to M. de Palleteau by Sieur de Bonair. Paris, Antoine de Sommaville, 1640. In-4, VIII, 102 pp., lemon-coloured cloth, triple gold thread on the covers, decorated ribbed spine, gilt edges. First edition. Boisrobert (1589–1662) was one of the five authors whom Richelieu had set out to have work under his direction: Boisrobert, Colletet, Corneille, L’Estoile and Rotrou. He was one of the founders of the Académie française, which he joined in 1634. He took part in the ‘Cid’ controversy and wrote some fifteen plays with romantic plots. The action takes place in Toledo and begins with a mix-up caused by the two lovers sharing the same name. Ex-libris by L. Laurent Pichat.
