BACILLY, Bénigne de – A Collection of the Finest Verses Set to Music. Part 3. Paris, Robert Ballard, (1667). In-12, engraved title page, (2) folios, engraving for the dedication to M. du Mesnil-Montmor, Councillor of Parliament, 301 (11) pp., maroon morocco binding, ribbed spine, internal perforation, gilt edges. (BELLEVALLÉE). LACHÈVRE II, 129. Contains 254 texts of arias by various authors. In addition to verses by Benserade, Quinault, Segrais, Sarazin, Mme de Villedieu, Boisrobert, Segrais, etc., it includes three pieces by Molière: ‘Air de ballet de M. Batiste’ (2), ‘Récit de M. Baptiste’. Bacilly, a singing master (c. 1625–1690) originally from Normandy, became famous for his *Remarques curieuses sur l’art de bien chanter* (1668). Between 1663 and 1667, he published songs drawn from the Ballard collection and was for many years the official music contributor to the *Mercure Galant*.
