FAUCHET, Claude – Gallic and French Antiquities. Expanded to include three volumes: containing events that took place in Gaul and France up to the year seven hundred and fifty-one AD. Compiled by Monsieur le Président Fauchet. Paris, Jérémie Périer, 1599. Small 8vo, (26) folios, the last folio bearing the author’s coat of arms, 228, 180 folios, (1) folio (errata), paper heavily yellowed, red morocco binding, ribbed spine, tooth-cut gilded edges, gilt binding (CUZIN). Second edition, partly in the original, dedicated to King Henry IV. This history, which traces the origins of France up to the decline of the House of Charlemagne, was to remain a model for historians in terms of its methodology.
