ADAM, Lambert-Sigisbert – A Collection of Ancient Greek and Roman Sculptures. Time uncovers the ruins of Marius’s palace in 1729 (Frontispiece). (Paris, Joullain, 1755). 4to, frontispiece, table of contents and 62 plates engraved on copper by Defehrt, Le Mire, Tardieu, Chevilet, Fonbonne and others after drawings by L. S. Adam; title page missing; a few small perforations in the upper margin, a few small stains, fawn-coloured calfskin with speckles on the cover, decorated ribbed spine, endpapers and corners restored.
COHEN 3. The marble sculptures featured in this collection originate largely from the collection of Cardinal de Polignac, brought to light by Mr Adam, the sculptor. (Continued in the following:) 18 copperplate engravings: approx. 145 × 225 mm (4), approx. 140 × 190 mm (9), approx. 125 × 180 mm (5). Pastoral scenes, most of them engraved by Jan Visscher, after Nicolaes Berchem (Haarlem 1620 – Amsterdam 1683). They depict shepherds accompanied by various domestic animals: donkeys, horses, cattle, goats, dogs and sheep. Four of these also offer a panoramic view of the countryside.
