LE VASSEUR - Poetic Works. Paris, Charles de Sercy, 1655. Small 12mo, (4) folios, 76 pp., yellowed paper, Bradel-style binding. VIOLLET LE DUC 507. First edition dedicated to his patron, Marshal Antoine de Gramont (1604–1678), for whom he served as secretary. A eulogy to the virtue which the marshal perfectly embodies is followed by: *La Maison souveraine de Bidache*, dedicated to the Marshal’s wife. ‘Among other things, he describes the tableaux—or rather, paintings on a gold background—which adorned the apartments (of the château), in such a way as to give a fairly accurate impression of them.’ Most depicted romantic subjects.
