BURLUGUAY, Jean] – A Rebuttal by the Archbishop of Sens, or A Response to the Pleading of the Daughters of Saint Catherine of Les Provins against the Franciscan Friars (by Alexandre-Louis Varet). No place, 1669. In-12, 83 pp., burgundy half-calf. GAY III, 1219. A reply by Jean Burluguay, theologian to Henri de Gondrin, Archbishop of Sens. The Cordeliers Fathers, who served as spiritual directors to the nuns, had incited them to commit various abuses of different kinds. Following a trial, a judgement by the Parliament of Paris (1669) placed the monastery directly under the authority of the archbishop.
