NOÉ, Michel – *Several Riddles, or Enigmatic Descriptions*. Leeuwarden, Henry Rintius, 1684. In-16, frontispiece, (7) folios, 171, (5) pages, trimmed slightly short, ivory vellum in Bradel binding, plain spine decorated and inscribed in pen.
First edition dedicated to Henriette-Amélie of Anhalt-Dessau, wife of Henri Casimir II, Stadtholder of Drenthe. Michel Noé, a Reformed writer originally from Orléans, was a reader at the young Walloon Church in Leeuwarden. Collections of riddles had been brought into fashion by Abbé Cotin, who published one in 1645, which was frequently reprinted. The 160 riddles are composed in verse. The last five pages provide the solutions. Ex-libris of Frédéric Lachèvre.
