MANUSCRIPT] – Miscellany of Poems. No place, c. 1731. In-4, (1) folio, 455 pp., (23) folios (table of contents); (18) folios (additions), brown calfskin of the publisher’s, decorated ribbed spine, frontispiece scraped off the inside front cover. A collection of sonnets, tales, epitaphs, epigrams, epistles, rondeaux, etc. In some cases, the authors are named: Chaulieu, Boileau, Ferrand, Pavillon, the Duke of Nevers (Against Racine’s *Phèdre*, p. 321), Mme Deshoulières, Tierceville, J. B. Rousseau, La Monnoye, Catherine Bernard, Chapelle, etc. The inclusion of two tales by Jacques Vergier without the author’s name: *L’Enfant de cinq mois* (p. 234) and *Le Rossignol* (p. 304), allows us to date this compilation to around 1731, the year in which they appear in the *Oeuvres diverses*. The compiler occasionally notes that the pieces have been printed, which suggests that a large number of them are unpublished. The vast majority have libertine content, such as: *L’origine du petit bout des tetons* (p. 109) - On the Metamorphosis of Iris’s bottom into a star by Mr Pavillon (p. 226) - On the impotence of Mr de Gesvres (p. 243). Some could only have circulated clandestinely, such as *Les Sodomites*: When you punish the Sodomites // Great God, your wrath was too swift // And your anger blinded you // Your fire was not necessary // To destroy that people // You need only have let them be. (p. 63) – Stanza on the Sodomites (p. 162) – or because of their political nature: Petition from the Religious to the King by Minister Claude to prevent the revocation of the Edict of Nantes (pp. 450–454).
