ARIOSTO – Orlando Furioso. Fully revised and adorned with new illustrations – Annotations and notes by Girolamo Ruscelli, on the difficult and important passages of the Furioso (separate title page). The title is set within a wood-engraved portico and the volume is illustrated with 51 full-page woodcuts surrounded by a frame featuring grotesques, cherubs or figures. These are new compared with previous editions, particularly those by Giolito, and appear in full-page form for the first time. According to Kristeller, they were engraved after works by Giovanni Battista Dossi, brother of Dosso Dossi, both painters of the Ferrara school. Leaf no. 7 (pp. 445–446) is missing.
