GUERET, Gabriel] – *Le Parnasse reformé*. Eighth edition, revised, corrected and expanded. Lyon: Claude de La Roche, 1675. Small 12mo, (3) folios, 99 (1) pages, ivory vellum with flaps. First published in 1668. ROTSCHILD no. 1850 (1671 edition). In 1671, Guéret published *La Guerre des Anciens et des Modernes* (*The War of the Ancients and the Moderns*), to which *Le Parnasse reformé* serves as a counterpart. He reviews all the ancient and modern poets. Guéret’s writings constitute an important contribution to the history of the Quarrel of the Ancients and the Moderns. Familiar with both Boileau and Perrault, he adopted an original stance in this conflict—which was then on the verge of becoming an open polemic—by taking ‘taste’, which he termed ‘science galante’, as his essential criterion.
