Like all of Hay du Chastelet’s writings, composed in support of Cardinal Richelieu. The work is directed against the enemies of France, in particular against the two Marillacs: conversely, it is favourable towards Schomberg and Bullion. Richelieu is the true successor to Henry IV, who, at the Champs-Élysées, said: ‘I was determined to make him a cardinal and would have brought him into public affairs, had I lived longer.’
