LORME, Thomas de – *La Muse nouvelle, ou les agréables divertissements du Parnasse*. Lyon, Charles Mathevet, 1665. Small 12mo, frontispiece, (12) folios, 269 pages, (8) folios, plate; grained morocco, ribbed spine, internal toothing, gilt edges. (BELLEVALLÉE). VIOLLET-LE-DUC 522. ROCHAS (Biog. du Dauphiné) I, 310. LACHÈVRE IV, 146. First edition of the author’s only poetic essay. Thomas de Lorme (La Côte Saint André, c. 1642 – Grenoble 1724), born into a family of skilled physicians and apothecaries, studied at the College of Vienne around 1657. His teacher was Father Ménestrier, and he was encouraged by Boissat to pursue a career in poetry. His early verses, most of which were written whilst at college, are not without charm. He begins with a self-portrait, followed by satires and romantic poems. Two of these poems are dedicated to Nicolas Chorier and to Boissat. He was a friend of Le Pays, author of the famous *Amitiés, amours et amourettes* (Grenoble, 1664). Later, De Lorme served as a lawyer at the Parliament of Grenoble.
