MOREAU DE BRASEY, Jean-Nicole] – Political, Amusing and Satirical Memoirs. Published in Véritopolis by Jean ‘dit Vrai’ (Amsterdam: Roger), 1716. 3 volumes in one in-12 volume, portrait, 3 frontispieces, 11 plates, half-leather, including 2 fold-outs (Battle of the Pruth), ivory vellum from the GAY III series, 174. First edition dedicated to Marshal de Villars. At the beginning of his memoirs, Moreau de Brasey describes Peter the Great’s campaign at the Pruth in 1711 against the Turks, which ended in a Russian defeat. The brigadier was demobilised without pay. “This collection contains tales in verse, epigrams, songs, several comedies by Dominique Biancollelli, and an account of the wars waged by Tsar Peter I against Turkey and King Charles XII of Sweden. It also contains some rather light-hearted verse pieces, including the following titles: *The Ten Fingers* – *The Metamorphosis of Iris’s Bottom into a Star* – *The Chastised Coquette* – *The Natural Inclination*, etc.” (Gay).
