Description
FANCAN, François Langlois, Sieur de] – *L'Horoscope du Conestable, avec le passe-partout des Favoris*. No place, 1622. In-12, 31 pp., yellowed paper, cardboard binding. SHF 2583. By one of the most prolific pamphleteers in the service of Cardinal Richelieu. A response to the *Apologie* by the Duke of Luynes, published in the same year. Fancan renews his attacks on Luynes, describing him as ‘as cowardly as can be’ and of ‘unbelievable greed’. He poses the following question: was I not right to predict, based on his horoscope, that the Duke of Luynes would not live long? He explains, again based on his horoscope, the death of the Duke of Luynes and what became of him. The final six pages contain the ‘Rejoicing of the whole of France, especially of all good Frenchmen, at the death of the Constable’.
