MAILLY, Chevalier de] – Nouvelles toutes nouvelles, by M. D. L. C. Paris, Pierre Ribou, 1708. In-12, (8) leaves, 370 pp., paper slightly yellowed, brown marbled calf in the publisher’s style, decorated ribbed spine, cap ends restored. JONES 14. Godson of Louis XIV and author of numerous novels. Divided into five short stories, the last of which is entitled: *The Loves of Lucie and Her Mother*. Contains the famous tale of the ‘Kneeling Musketeer’, which has since found its way into every collection of bawdy anecdotes, in which the musketeers play such a prominent role (see Paul Lacroix, in *Bull. du Bibliophile*, 1857, p. 289).
