A Queen’s armchair in moulded and carved walnut, with a curved backrest decorated with small floral motifs, armrests finished with scrolls, resting on four curved legs
Marked by Michel CRESSON, who was granted his master’s certificate in 1740

Upholstered in tapestry with an elegant design against a floral background in shades of beige, orange and brown
Michel CRESSON, who was admitted as a master in 1740 and was the younger brother of Louis CRESSON, distinguished himself in the art of chair-making and took over many of his brother’s designs upon the latter’s death. His workshop was located in the chair-makers’ quarter on Rue de Cléry.
He received prestigious commissions, including those from the Prince of Condé for the furnishings of the Palais Bourbon in Paris and the Château de Chantilly, and supplied chairs to Louise-Elisabeth, Duchess of Parma, in Rome. Michel Cresson retired from business in the mid-1770s.
