MICHEL DUFET (1888–1885) DESIGNER & ECART INTERNATIONAL PUBLISHER (FOUNDED IN 1978 BY ANDREE PUTMAN) – FROM THE EBEL SHOWROOMS, PLACE VENDÔME Sandows chair, a model originally created around [1935] and produced by Le Bûcheron Set of four Sandows chairs. Nickel-plated tubular metal frames. The seats are stretched with alternating black and blue elastic cords. H. 96 cm – W. 45 cm – D. 52 cm History: This Sandows chair was undoubtedly the most iconic chair designed by Michel Dufet, and most likely also one of the most iconic of the late 1930s. The artist presented it at the Pavillon des Décorateurs during the 1937 Exposition des Arts et Techniques in Paris. Andrée Putman, often referred to as the ‘Pope of Design’, would, from 1978 onwards, upon the founding of Ecart International, reintroduce the aesthetics of the 1930s throughout the 1980s through the reissue of numerous designs.
