Clog Made of carved, engraved, stained and single-piece wood. This small clog, with a sole entirely studded with nails, is very richly decorated with foliage-inspired scrollwork and interlacing, including on the heel. The word ‘MARIE’ is inscribed on the instep; there are beautiful festoons around the ankle strap, complemented by a braided trim and a large pansy on the insole. The outer sole is also decorated with stylised flowering branches and its edge is adorned with a line of circles. 19th century L. 18.5 cm Damage, losses and restorations A second clog is included, carved from a single piece of wood. The upper is carved with a bird perched on a leafy, flowering branch. An identical twig is carved on the heel.
