Description
Small watch holder Carved and polychrome wood. Featuring a rectangular case with a cut-out pediment forming a finial. The base of the watch holder is decorated with a trompe-l’œil design imitating a bookcase, with the spines of the books visible. A central oculus allows the watch face to be seen; the watch slides into the back and is secured by a specially fitted, swivelling holder. A small compartment opens at the back to store the watch. Twigs, cross-patterns, crosses and grooves adorn the piece. The side panels are topped with spinning tops. Late 19th century H. 13.4 cm
