Description
Rare apothecary’s medicine chest Made of wood, wrought iron and brass. Rectangular in shape, with a handle on the lid. Edges highlighted by bands and hinges in cut brass, with scrolled borders. A coat of arms, beneath the handle, bears the monogram ‘JBC’ engraved in English script with foliage motifs. On the front, there are two ornate keyholes, whilst on the back there are two keyholes with foliage motifs. The rear locks provided access to four compartments, each closed by a lid and lined with paper imitating marble. Elegant engravings adorn the reverse of the lids. A large additional compartment completes the interior of the box. Complete with its two keys. Late 18th century – Early 19th century H. 14.5 cm – W. 30 cm – D. 21 cm Restorations
