Companion’s Box
Made of stained, carved wood, metal and fabric. Rectangular in shape, the lid is adorned with two oval cartouches: one featuring a set square and a compass above a saw, and the other featuring two axes above a plane. Between these two elements are the monogram ‘KQ’, a cross, a ship’s anchor and the date ‘1911’. The corners are adorned with hearts and sprigs. On the front, a wheel is positioned in the centre, flanked by a flag on either side, with the initials ‘TI’, accompanied by two hearts, in the lower corners. The sides are decorated with a woman on one and a doe on the other; the back is decorated with striations. Stamped metal lion’s feet. The interior is lined with red velvet, secured with tacks.
