Description
Gothic-style chest Made of patinated iron. Rectangular in shape, it rests on four ornate legs, positioned at the corners. The domed lid features a movable handle and is adorned with Gothic decorative motifs, arranged in several superimposed layers covering the chest, lending a sense of depth to the overall design. Stout, high-relief buttresses, adorned with three-dimensional faux nails with flower-shaped heads, encircle the front and provide an almost invisible locking mechanism, complete with a complex lock. The sides are adorned with radiating motifs and buttresses. 20th century H. (excluding the handle) 23 cm – W. 27.3 cm – D. 18.5 cm Traces of gilding remain in places and the lock is non-functional; comes with a key. Note: a fine example by the same maker was recently sold at the dispersal of the Leopoldo Conforti collection on 26 March 2026, lot 288, at Cambi, Milan. Another model almost identical to ours was sold on 13 June 2024, lot 6, at Direct Auction Galleries in Chicago.
