Description
Snuffbox
Made of weathered, carved and engraved wood and metal. Rectangular in shape, the lid is adorned with a comical scene depicting an argument between a man and a woman, who are squabbling over a pair of knickers, symbolising who wears the trousers in the relationship, with the woman appearing to slap her husband. The back is adorned with a lion standing on its hind legs, its head—carved in the round—crowning the lively scene. It is flanked by two tritons at the base.
