Description
Two tobacco mortars
Made of turned and carved wood. The first, in natural wood with a rustic appearance, consists of two interlocking, single-piece components. The head of the pestle is fitted with metal. The second, made of boxwood, with a straight, moulded body, is of rather elaborate workmanship: the mortar crushes the tobacco, which passes through the sieve, then into the hollow body of the pestle, and is collected by the head, which is perforated.
Auvergne and Dauphiné, 19th century
H. 13.5 and 15.5 cm
Stains on the larger model
