Description
Military walking stick Made of stained, carved wood and glass. The pommel is carved in the round and fixed to the shaft; it is decorated with a dog’s bust and a round protrusion designed to secure the grip on the pommel. The wooden shaft is entirely carved, featuring a snake with beautiful scales on one side and, on the other side, in six superimposed registers, vine leaves accompanied by the date ‘1906’, followed by a couple – the husband appearing drunk, causing his wife to flee – then two African-themed registers featuring an ostrich, a snake coiled around a palm tree and a giraffe, followed by a cascade of flowers, an elephant on an ornate plinth, twigs and, finally, a branch of ivy rising from a beautifully carved ferrule.
